Los Angeles comedian Dave Ross is scheduled to appear March 25. The events are hosted by Wes Van Horn.
The monthly Upstairs Comedy Series, which kicked off in December at Avondale Brewing Company, gives local fans a chance to see live performances by nationally touring stand-up comics.
The series is hosted by Wes Van Horn, a Birmingham native and professional comedian who has presented numerous comedy showcases in the Magic City.
The series continues Feb. 13, with a performance by David Perdue of Atlanta, and March 25, with an appearance by Dave Ross from Los Angeles. Both shows begin at 8 p.m.
Perdue has appeared on Comedy Central in “Kevin Hart Presents: Hart of the City,” a series about stand-up comedians across America, and on the Fuse network in “Uproarious,” a series featuring hot new acts on the circuit.
His acting credits include “Love Is” on OWN and “Misfits and Monsters” on truTV. He co-hosts the sports and comedy podcast, “Forth and Ten,” and is the co-producer of the “1AM Secret Show,” a long-running Atlanta comedy night.
Perdue was named one of Atlanta’s “People to Watch” in 2017 by Creative Loafing, which said the comic inspires “deafening laughter” from audiences. He also “emanates joviality” onstage even when his material touches on race or other social issues, the publication said.
Ross has appeared on “The Late Late Show” with James Corden on CBS-TV and on the Comedy Central shows “Drunk History,” “Corporate” and “This is Not Happening.”
Live gigs include the Vans Warped Tour, The Fest Comedy Tour, SXSW, Just For Laughs Montreal and The Moth Ball. Ross has made short films for Comedy Central and IFC, won The Moth Grand Slam storytelling competition and helped create two well-known podcasts, “Terrified” and “Suicide Buddies.”
Ross is known for having overcome an anxiety disorder that caused terrible stage fright and nearly derailed his career.
“Overcoming fear — books have been written about overcoming fear for thousands of years,” Ross told Los Angeles magazine in 2019. “So I really wanted to beat it.”
Van Horn has been a writer and stand-up comic for about a decade. His appearances include the High Plains Comedy Festival in Denver, the Red Clay Comedy Fest in Atlanta and the Cannes Film Festival. His television work includes regular appearances on “The Josh Wolf Show” on CMT.
