Birmingham City Schools (BCS) officials announced on Saturday, March 14, that schools will close for students and employees effective immediately “out of an abundance of caution relative to the coronavirus,” also referred to as COVID-19.
The anticipated return date for students and employees is Monday, April 6, unless otherwise noted, according to a BCS news release.
The schools will offer meal service on weekdays from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. for students during the closure.
Instruction will not occur during the closure, but BCS has “provided families with information to practice enrichment at home,” the release states.
