The Birmingham City Council, at its regular meeting for Tuesday, September 17, approved the sale of two parcels of land at the Daniel Payne Industrial Park, and Mayor Randall Woodfin said that the money will go to the city’s Neighborhood Revitalization Fund.
In one item, the Council approved the sale of an approximately 13 acres at the facility to Alabama Power Company for $37,400 per acre, with an estimated total purchase price of about $487,000.
In a second item, the Council approved the sale of approximately 9.5 acres at the facility to Cedar Real Estate Group IV for a purchase price of $40,000 per acre, and an estimated total price of $382,000. The purchaser plans to prepare the site for use by a trucking company as the headquarters for their flatbed division, according to Janice James Douthard of the city’s Department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity.
The sale of the items totals at around $869,000, Woodfin told the Council. “One-hundred percent of that will go to the Neighborhood Revitalization Fund,” he said.
In response to a question from Councilor Steven Hoyt, Douthard said that Alabama Power is playing a lower price per acre than is Cedar Real Estate because the site the utility is buying will require more clearing or site work.
Both sales were recommended by Woodfin and the Council’s economic development and budget and finance committees.
The items were also having their first readings, so the Council members gave unanimous consent to take up the items before holding votes.
