Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin was admitted to a hospital Jan. 4, 2021, due to COVID-19 symptoms, according to a city news release.
Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin was admitted to a hospital the night of Monday, Jan. 4, to address symptoms connected to COVID-19 pneumonia, according to a city news release.
Woodfin said that he was receiving excellent care and resting comfortably, according to the release.
The city announced on Wednesday, Dec. 30, that Woodfin had tested positive for COVID-19 that day.
“Everyone, please remember that COVID is real,” Woodfin said in a statement Dec. 30. “Please be safe and protect yourselves and your loved ones.’’
OTHER BUSINESS
The Birmingham City Council held its regular meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 5, virtually due to concerns about COVID-19.
“With the number of cases continuing to trend upwards, we feel as though conducting our meeting virtually this week is in the best interest of everyone involved,” City Council President William Parker said in a news release.
The meeting was very brief. The first 21 items on the agenda were public hearing items and had to be withdrawn.
Members then voted to pass the rather short consent agenda and adjourned within about 20 minutes.
