Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin will share his plans and vision for the city in two speeches -- one at Parker High School on Martin Luther King Day and one at a Kiwanis Club luncheon downtown on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Woodfin will deliver his “State of the Community” address in the Parker auditorium on Monday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m., according to a city news release.
“I’ve always believed in putting people first, which is why I find it so important to keep the people of Birmingham informed,’’ Woodfin said in the release. “What better way for me to share my vision and dream for a better Birmingham than on the day we celebrate the dream of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’’
Parker is located at 400 Rev. Abraham Woods Blvd., and the auditorium is in the rear of the building.
Woodfin will deliver his first State of the City speech on Tuesday at noon at a Kiwanis Club of Birmingham luncheon at The Harbert Center, located at 2019 4th Ave N., according to a news release from the club.
The mayor, in his first year in office after defeating incumbent William A. Bell Sr. in a runoff election in October, is a Kiwanis member and will discuss his plans and agenda for 2018.
Mayors and community leaders of surrounding areas will be on hand for the address, the release states.
Prior to Woodfin’s remarks, Tom Thagard, the club’s immediate past president, will briefly update members regarding Kiwanis Centennial Park, a $5-million-dollar expansion of Vulcan Park and Museum now under construction.
