Veteran journalist Chuck Holmes took over as executive director of the Alabama Humanities Alliance.
The Alabama Humanities Foundation, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, recently changed its name.
The nonprofit, now called the Alabama Humanities Alliance, also hired a new executive director.
Chuck Holmes, formerly executive director and general manager of National Public Radio affiliate WBHM, took over as executive director on Jan. 4, according to an AHA news release.
Founded in 1974, the AHA promotes the appreciation of literature, history, law, philosophy and the arts in Alabama through programs, events and grants.
The AHA is also “committed to connecting individuals and communities across the state through a love for learning,” according to the news release.
The organization’s new name is designed to reflect this effort to create connections, according to AHA officials.
“Today we trade in our old name to stand shoulder to shoulder with each individual that supports, enjoys, celebrates and appreciates the humanities in our state and nation,” said AHA Board Chair Trey Granger. “Our view is that the humanities have great allies in every community, crossroads and city in Alabama, so the Alabama Humanities Alliance seemed most appropriate.”
The AHA also tapped local agency Telegraph Creative for an extensive rebranding, including a new logo and website.
