The Glow for a Cure event, which is held every year at Highland Park Golf Course, begins at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 and raises money for Alzheimer’s research.
Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama will be hosting a night of glow-in-the-dark golf at Highland Park for its sixth year on Sept. 13.
Community Relations Coordinator Vance Holder said the purpose of the tournament is to fund research and educational opportunities for people with Alzheimer’s, as well as fund the costs to keep family members with the disease at home for as long as possible.
“The main focus of the tournament is having a good time for a good cause,” Holder said.
Currently, they are trying to move toward supporting more students in Alzheimer's research, he said.
The Glow for a Cure event begins at 4:30 p.m. and features nine holes before a barbecue dinner break at the golf course, along with some time for drinks, Holder said. After that, they go out into the night for another round of nine holes with the glowing golf balls and glow sticks on the course. Although it gets pretty dark, Holder said, they’ve never had any major injuries.
“It’s fun to watch the glowing balls flying through the area with the tees lit up,” Holder said.
An awards ceremony will be held at the end. Golfers can register for a individual ticket for $200 or a foursome group ticket for $800. A $25 spectator ticket also supports the cause and includes dinner and a night of watching golf.
