Employees at America’s First Federal Credit Union downtown take part in a recent service project. In March, Amfirst announced three nonprofits that will benefit financially from the company’s annual employee-driven “Community First” Campaign.
America’s First Federal Credit Union (AmFirst) announced in March the three Birmingham charities it will support during the 2020 calendar year as part of its annual employee-driven “Community First” Campaign.
Smile-A-Mile, Three Hots and A Cot and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham will benefit from the campaign.
AmFirst employees chose the three charities they wished to support this year.
“Each year, our employees nominate three organizations for us to support with our time, money and community outreach efforts,” said Bill Connor, AmFirst president and CEO, in a news release. “These nonprofits are making a huge impact in their respective focus areas, and we are thrilled to be part of their story.”
Credit union members will be encouraged to donate to the campaign.
In addition, AmFirst employees will raise money using bake sales, basketball tournaments, a golf tournament and a clay shoot.
Smile-A-Mile, located in the Parkside District downtown, provides hope, healing and love for families during a child’s battle with cancer. Using year-round educational programming, the nonprofit helps children thrive during treatment and the years beyond. For more about the organization, go to smileamile.com.
Three Hots and A Cot is a Birmingham organization formed by veterans to help homeless make the transition from life on the streets to a self-sustained lifestyle. According to the organization’s website, Three Hots and A Cot is “not a homeless shelter — but a gateway to independence.” For details, go to cotsforvets.org.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network. The organization makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers and children ages 6 through 18 in communities across the country. For more information, go to bbbsbhm.org.
In October, AmFirst announced that it had raised about $120,000 for three other local charities, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Aletheia House and Sight Savers America.
Since it began in about 2014, the Community First Campaign has raised more than $500,000 for Alabama nonprofits.
