The Metropolitan, a $40 million upscale apartment complex, opened in Lakeview in early September.
And the four-story, 262-unit facility’s community manager, Robin Hixson, believes that the Metropolitan — located in the center of Lakeview’s entertainment district at Seventh Avenue South and 29th Street South — can have a positive impact on an already bustling neighborhood.
“This will positively impact Lakeview businesses, make Lakeview a more desirable place to spend time and create convenience for commuters working downtown,” Hixson said.
The Metropolitan is a “unique product” and “brings 262 new homes specifically to Lakeview,” she said.
Tenants began moving in over Labor Day weekend, according to Hixson. Twenty-eight of the units had been rented at press time, she said.
The one-, two- and three-bedroom units range from $1,000 to $3,000 and offer such amenities as 15-foot ceilings and private balconies. The complex includes several community spaces, including a fitness center, rooftop lounge and The Hangout, a gathering space with TVs and pool tables.
A diverse mix of people are moving in to Metropolitan, according to Hixson. “We have people from all over the world and locally,” she said.
When the project broke ground in 2016, developer John Gilbert — president and CEO of Bomasada Group in Houston — told Iron City Ink the complex would attract young professionals, millennials and empty-nesters. He said his company was excited to have found such a “great site” for the building in Lakeview, which he called “just an unbelievable part of town.”
Metropolitan is one of several apartment complexes that have opened in the area the last few years.
The 29 Seven mixed-use complex near the Metropolitan opened in 2013; the Iron City Lofts on Fourth Avenue South opened in 2016; and Park 35, a large complex in nearby Forest Park, opened in 2017.
A development group called 1904 on 4th LLC announced plans in 2017 to build a mixed-use complex called Lakeview Green on Fourth Avenue South near 29th Street with 30 condos and 73 apartments.
